At The Horder Centre, exceptional patient care is delivered by exceptional people. We're looking for a dedicated and proactive Theatre Porter to join our busy Theatre team and help ensure our patients receive outstanding care from the moment they arrive through to their recovery.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll work closely with clinical teams, supporting theatre operations, assisting with patient transfers, maintaining safe and clean environments, and helping ensure everything is in place for smooth and efficient surgical care.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Theatre Porter, you'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of our operating department while ensuring patients are treated with dignity, compassion and respect at every stage of their journey.
Patient Support & Transportation
- Safely transport patients between wards, recovery areas and operating theatres using beds, trolleys and wheelchairs.
- Assist with the transfer and positioning of patients within the theatre suite.
- Carry out safety checks prior to collecting patients, ensuring the correct patient is transferred according to theatre schedules.
- Liaise with ward and recovery teams to ensure beds and trolleys are available and correctly allocated.
Theatre & Operational Support
- Prepare theatre suites and equipment before and after surgical procedures.
- Support theatre staff with the movement of equipment and supplies throughout the department.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels across theatre areas in partnership with Stores and Clinical Leads.
- Receive and distribute deliveries, equipment and prostheses to the appropriate departments.
- Collect controlled drugs from Pharmacy when required, following appropriate procedures.
- Hold responsibility for the department phone and crash bleep during shifts, ensuring effective communication across the service.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout theatres and associated clinical areas.
- Correctly identify, segregate and dispose of waste in line with clinical waste policies.
- Support specimen management processes, ensuring specimens are correctly labelled and transferred safely.
- Complete weekly fire safety checks and report any concerns promptly.
- Report accidents, incidents, complaints or potential risks to senior colleagues and support preventative actions.
